Clubbing together to support children’s charity

Lincoln club Moka has shown its community spirit with a £5,092 donation to fund specialist sensory equipment for children with disabilities.

Paul Oloo, general manager of the Silver Street venue, made the presentation to the charity Action for Children for its Disability Lincolnshire service.

Paul said: “The donation is from our company’s Echo Trust charity to give something back to our local community. We hold regular collections at the club and our customers are always generous. We nominated this special cause to benefit because of its amazing work with children and their families.”

Disability Lincolnshire helps children with quite complex needs through short breaks and home care visits. It will use the grant to buy sensory suitcases with equipment for therapy, education and play activities.

The equipment includes a space projector and coloured fibre optics that provide a stunning visual display, tactile balls and coloured packs to help interaction, plus sound makers to promote rest and relaxation and an aroma resource kit.

The items are used to provide imaginative learning and promote new experiences for the senses such as sights, smells, touch and sound. They provide benefits for hearing, learning, understanding and attention span.

Kerry Wilson, Action for Children community fundraiser, said: “We are so very grateful for this donation from the Echo Trust and the Deltic Group. This money will go a long way in purchasing the sensory equipment that we so desperately need at Action for Children. Such equipment is invaluable for children with complex needs, it offers them imaginative learning in a safe environment as well as promoting rest and relaxation.”

Moka is part of The Deltic Group, the UK’s largest operator of late night bars and clubs, which employs 3000 people across its 54 venues. Since 2002 when Deltic set up the Echo Trust it has raised more than £2.5 million to grant awards to local children’s charities and children’s hospitals.
