A community-spirited Andover club has donated £5,375 for specialist equipment at a local respite home for children with learning disabilities, complex health needs and physical disabilities.

Howard Cooper, manager of Cameo on London Street, nominated Andover and District Mencap to receive the money for Rainbow Corner which opened in February 2019 to provide overnight short breaks and day care for children and young people.
It will fund items including two beds, a hoist, a garden ramp and rail to provide easier access to the garden and an epilepsy sensor mat and pager to alert staff if a child is having a seizure.
Howard said: “The donation is from our company’s Echo Trust charity to give something back to our local community. We hold regular collections at our venue and customers are always generous. We wanted Rainbow Corner to benefit because of its amazing support for children and their families.”
The four-bed ‘home from home’ provides care for children and young people who have multiple and profound learning disabilities, including those on the Autistic Spectrum, those with complex medical health needs and physical disabilities.
Chris Newman, Director of Care and Support Services at Andover and District Mencap, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Echo Trust and Cameo for this generous donation. It will enable us to maximise our capacity to support children and their families as we don’t have enough specialist equipment to meet the demand. Rainbow Corner is making a difference to families. We have provided over 100 nights of respite to children since we opened.”
Cameo is part of The Deltic Group, the UK’s largest operator of late night bars and clubs, which employs 3000 people across its 55 venues. Since 2002 when Deltic set up the Echo Trust it has raised more than £2.5 million to grant awards to local children’s charities and children’s hospitals.
