A late night bar in Stevenage will help children with autism to develop their communication skills thanks to a £5,000 donation for sensory equipment.
Bar & Beyond in Stevenage Leisure Park nominated TRACKS Autism to receive the money for its specialist early years centre where children can learn, play and explore their world safely to help achieve their potential.
General Manager John Mason said: “The donation is from our company’s Echo Trust charity to give something back to our local community. Our customers are always generous when we hold regular collections for the Echo Trust. We wanted this local cause to benefit because of its support for children and their families.”
Jane Wagstaff-Smith, Principal of TRACKS Autism in Stevenage, said: “We are so grateful to Bar & Beyond for putting us forward again for a grant to help the children and families we support within Hertfordshire.
“Children with autism often struggle to communicate and understand social situations. This means that a huge part of our sessions at TRACKS are based around advice from speech and language therapists and occupational therapists to help us to meet and develop each child’s individual communication and sensory needs.
“The toys we are now able to buy with the grant money will meet the varying needs of our children. This could be in the form of toys that stimulate and those that help them to relax. Some of the toys are to aid communication at the same time as engaging them in a sensory experience. These toys are very valuable to us, as we are very small independent charity, and would not be in a position to buy them without this grant.”
Bar & Beyond is part of The Deltic Group, the UK’s largest operator of late night bars and clubs, which employs 3000 people across 53 venues. Since 2002 when Deltic set up the Echo Trust it has raised more than £2.5 million to grant awards to local children’s charities and children’s hospitals.
